: I am looking for information for my mother who is putting her mother in a home tomorrow. We are all having a difficult time with the fact that she is leaving her home.

dear kim,
many years ago i watched as my grandmother went to live in a nursing home ,at the time i thought it was the saddest day of my life. i couldn't understand why none of her children would take in this kind and loving woman. then several years ago i had to face the same problem with my own mother. we took her into our home where she stayed for 3 yrs. until it became impossible. my mother has now been in a nursing home for just over 3yrs. and even though it was a hard thing to do it was not nearly as hard as having her live with us. on occasion i feel guilty about our decision but if i had it to do over i would have made these arrangements instead of taking her into our home. hang in there kim, you and your family will make it through and soon there will only be an occasional twing of guilt.by the way i now understand the decision to place my grandmother in a home.if you would like to talk more please feel free to email me. best of luck to you and your family,

darlene
